JVF Phase 2: repositioning and showcasing the abundance of intangible musical heritage of Rajasthan and its rural musician communities

Jodhpur RIFF supported by a year round Rajasthan rural arts programme.

Rajasthan International Folk Festival held its first edition in 2007. RIFF is an initiative of Jaipur Virasat Foundation & Mehrangarh Museum Trust. Held in the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, RIFF is now established as an annual festival on the world music calendar. RIFF has been planned from the outset to serve as a magnificent 21st century patron to the traditional rural music and musicians of Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan rural arts programme was initiated by the late John Singh as the foundation stone of the annual RIFF festival. Providing year-round creative and supportive work, identifying new talent, creating new platforms, the programme worked directly with the region’s artists living in Rajasthan’s villages and hamlets, repositioning to local communities and local audiences their traditional music, including to local village audiences at the now established Momasar folk music festival, started by JVF in 2011.
